The Legacy of Sattvik Spices

A Story of Passion, Partnerships & Global Recognition (1996 - Present)

"We didn't just sell spices. We revived the forgotten truth of flavor."

1996

A Vision Rooted in Authenticity

Founded by Mr. Rajan Nair, a third-generation spice farmer from Vadakkanchery, Thrissur, Sattvik Spices began with a revolutionary idea:

"What if we could bring the untouched purity of Idukki's spice gardens directly to people's kitchens?"

Starting with just a 300 sq.ft. shop near Thrissur Round, Mr. Nair personally sourced pepper, cardamom, and turmeric from small farmers in Munnar, Wagamon, and Peermade, rejecting the industry norm of blending spices with fillers.

Breaking Barriers: The Kochi Expansion

With rising demand, Sattvik moved to Kochi in 2003, partnering with Devan Group of companies for hypermarket shelf space—a game-changer that introduced their spices to a pan-India audience.

Celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor famously praised Sattvik's "cardamom with unmatched aroma" during a 2007 food expo in Mumbai, calling it "the gold standard for Indian spices."

Gulf Dreams & Growing Pains

In 2005, Sattvik entered the Middle East through Dubai distributors. But the reality was harsh:

  • Middlemen repackaged spices with inferior blends, damaging Sattvik's reputation
  • Payments were delayed for months, straining finances
  • Customers complained of stale products, unaware Sattvik wasn't handling final deliveries

"We were losing control of our own legacy," recalls Mr. Nair's son, Arjun Rajan, who joined the business in 2012.

Gulf Challenges
2015-2019

The Fight for Direct Presence

Chef Arun Kumar of Trèsind Dubai (a Michelin-recognized restaurant) switched to Sattvik after tasting their Malabar cinnamon, calling it "the closest to fresh-picked bark I've seen outside Kerala."

Despite this recognition, 2019 brought a crisis: A Dubai middleman sold stale Sattvik stock under another label. The scandal went viral in Kerala expat groups until Mr. Nair publicly apologized and vowed to "deliver directly or not at all."
